Phytosanitary treatment of food for commercial application

The treatment of food products with ionizing radiation in order to maximize their shelf life and destroy insects, their larvae and pathogens is permitted and encouraged by the FAO and the IAEA – FAO/IAEA, Joint Atoms4Food Initiative, 2023.

Being committed to this initiative, Beamcomplex has created the programme called Atoms For Food Equipment and manufactures food processing equipment 1-5 MeV.

IONIZING RADIATION FOR COMMERCIAL FOOD IRRADIATION

The technology of ionizing radiation is used for phytosanitary treatment of food and agricultural products, insect larvae elimination and eradication of pathogens thus extending food shelf life.

SHELF LIFE OF PRODUCTS TREATED WITH IONIZING RADIATION

With the help of pathogen destruction equipment the shelf life of food products is significantly extended. The level of pathogenic contamination of food products subjected to treatment must not exceed limit values.

*The long shelf life is due to the fact that the products are exposed to the maximum permissible dose of radiation, as well as the use of packaging materials that are insect-, moisture- and oxygen-proof.
