As per research data published in Science Advances journal, around 9% of plastic waste generated gets recycled, 12% is incinerated, and 79% is accumulated in landfills or the natural environment. If current production and waste management trends continue, roughly 12,000 Mt of plastic waste will be in landfills or in the natural environment by 2050.
Recycling plastic waste using ionizing radiation enhances waste recyclability and enables the transformation of waste into valuable materials or energy sources, thereby addressing environmental pollution and reducing landfill accumulation.

BEAMCOMPLEX EQUIPMENT FOR PLASTIC WASTE RECYCLING
Beamcomplex manufactures compact size complexes for electron beam crosslinking of finished polymer products made of plastic waste. Complexes may be placed directly at plastic recycling plants.
IONIZING RADIATION TECHNOLOGY FOR PLASTIC WASTE RECYCLING
Ionizing radiation (E-beam) generated by electron accelerators is used for plastic waste recycling.
When accelerated electrons act on a polymer molecule, free radicals are generated, which, by reacting with the molecule or another macroradical, form a branch or a bridge. As a result of the detachment of a hydrogen atom from a methylene group, double bonds and cross-bridge bonds are formed. Ionizing radiation changes the chemical structure of polymers, which lead to changes in the mechanical and physical properties of the materials.
The process of treating plastic waste is carried out as follows:
1) Plastic waste is crushed into crumbs;
2) One type of our complex is designed for the separation of polymers into HDPE, polystyrene, foam, and other polymers.
— Polyethylene waste is used to produce new polyethylene products (recycling).
— Other materials, except polyethylene, are used in construction for mixing with concrete. Another type of our complex allows, when treating the polymer surface, to obtain an adhered layer that bonds well with cement mixtures.
APPLICATION OF RECYCLED PLASTIC WASTE
The application of electron beam treatment technology will enable effective plastic waste recycling. Plastic waste treatment ensures its further reuse due to modified properties of treated polymers.
Polymer products made of modified polymer powder: pipes, bike paths, road barriers, storm drains, etc.; an additive in production of other polymer items.
